About Me

I fell in love with sewing clothes when I was 12, though my interest in clothing design started much earlier. I have always loved to design- to play with color and shape and put a creative flair on whatever I do.  Gaining basic sewing knowledge, and access to fabric and my great-grandmother’s sewing machine, opened up a whole new world for me – one where I could create clothes and actually wear them.  I have sewn clothes for myself since that old sewing machine first came out of the attic, using patterns but often changing them to fit my sense of style – or just to fit me well.  It is rare that I use a pattern straight from the package with no adjustments, b/c much of the joy of sewing for me is in the design and creativity it offers.

Patchwork21 was born in 2006 out of a desire to combine what I love, sewing, with what I need, money to live.  I quit my full-time job to have more time to sew, and for several years devoted most of my sewing time to home décor – window treatments, pillows, etc.  When my daughter was born in 2008 I took a break from sewing for a bit, and when I picked it up again I discovered the joy of making girls’ clothes.  The simplicity of the designs leaves lots of room for creativity and embellishment, and there are so many beautiful fabrics to choose from – it seems the options are endless.  Plus the finished products are just so much fun!  So after much encouragement from friends and family, I am excited to launch a small line of dresses this spring.  All of the dresses are handmade by me, and can be customized to fit your style.

I will be offering new dress options in the fall.  And I continue to make home decor items- curtains, pillows, nursery bedding, etc.

Off to sew… – Juliana
